TEMPO.CO, Gold Coast - Indonesia lost 1-4 to India yesterday in Sudirman Cup 2017 in Australia.

Women’s singles Fitriani was defeated by Pusarla V. Sindhu 8-21,19-21 in the last match, meanwhile women’s doubles Della Destiara Haris/Rosyita Eka Putri Sari was overpowered by Ashwini Ponnappa/Reddy N. Sikki 12-21, 19-21.

Met after the match, Fitriani said that in the first game she did not play quick enough, though she managed to attack and drop a number of shots in the second game.

“I managed to chase [the score], but the result was not as expected,” Fitriani said.

Indonesia manager Susi Susanti said that the national team’s talismanic shuttlers inexplicably failed to give their best performance.

“Some athletes did not play their best while others have. We expected that the doubles could secure some points but they failed to meet our expectations, such as mixed doubles who unfortunately could not take advantage during the critical points and women’s doubles who was not relaxed maybe because it was trailing,” Susi said.

Indonesia will face Denmark in the next match today. Despite having a slim chance to progress, Susi stressed that the players will try their hardest to win.

“The next match must be won by a large margin; the chance is slim considering our average player composition. But the game has not even started yet, anything can happen; one thing for sure is, we will give our best,” Susi said.

Indonesia needs to win at least 4-1 against the Danish Dynamite in order to progress into the quarter-finals.
